Testimonials left by our guests after their stay in our Holiday Cottages.

In the past this page allowed our guests to post comments after their stay - it has now largely been replaced  by the Freetobook review system which you can read on the home page and each individual cottage page.   Instead of deleting the page I thought it was worth recording the comments for all to read.

Just spent the last week in Chestnut Cottage near Weymouth. The cottage was perfect and made our week perfect. Everything had been catered for right down to an automatic torch on the landing. A perfect location central to many local attractions and great value for money. I honestly could not praise the cottage any more. Fri, 13 May 2016 20:40:20

We stayed at Chestnut Cottage recently. A really lovely cottage very well appointed and beautifully clean. an excellent venue for a family celebration or get together. Ann is very helpful and friendly. Wed, 14 May 2014 17:35:54

We spent another happy week at 3 Lower Farm cottage in December. We have been coming to this cottage for 31 years and we love it. It feels like a second home and never disappoints. The cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas and was warm and cosy and the log fire a delight on a winter evening. As always it is the thoughtful touches that make it special, like the toys provided suitable for my 2 year old grandson, flowers on the table, the tea tray ready on arrival. Not only do we love the cottage, but this part of Dorset is spectacular, the area is superb for walking and there is lots to do and see. Even after 31 years we are still discovering new things to do here. I cannot recommend a holiday in one of these welcoming family run farm cottages highly enough. Sat, 11 Jan 2014 22:22:27

Just to say thank you for another lovely week, this time spent in The Brambles. Such lovely, comfortable accommodation in a beautiful area, near to the sea and on a working farm.. What more could anyone wish for. Thank you once again. Joan and Frank Whittle.. Berkshire. Sun, 21 Jul 2013 12:00:50

My partner and I stayed in Brambles for 4 days over the new year. We had an amazing time. The cottage was beautiful, along with the scenery. We couldn't have asked for more! We will certainly be recommending your lovely cottages and hope to stay again soon! Thank you for a lovely break! Megan and Will. Sun, 27 Jan 2013 17:14:48

Another relaxing 2wk stay at Willows and Brambles enjoyed by all.The cottages are so cosy and well equipped, even if the weather was not our accustomed heatwave! Having heard about the summer floods Willows and Brambles have been restored to order so that you would not guess the deluge of July 2012 which hit West Dorset.Exceptional views at Portland and Nothe Fort Weymouth were highlights this year and visiting the area around the Olympic Sailing Acadamy.Such a stunning coastline.Thank you again Jane and family for your attentive hospitality. We always wish we could keep Character Farm Cottages our slice of heaven secret. PS: Kitchen towel rail and coat hooks brilliant new additions !!! Sat, 06 Oct 2012 15:14:25

We stayed in Chestnut Cottage the 2nd Week in July. We very much enjoyed out stay and thought the house very well equipped and comfortable. The weather was very mixed and Anne made sure we had everything we needed with games for the children. There was a lot of information on the area on the history and things to do, which we made full use of. Great thought had been given to make sure guests had a very good time, which we certainly did Tue, 21 Aug 2012 19:06:37

We stayed at the beginning of July when the weather over our first 24 hours was particularly atrocious. However, Jane was the epitomy of caring and efficient attention when we needed it. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend your cottages to anyone and will surely get in touch if we're down your way again. And Dorset hospitality generally was wonderful. Mon, 20 Aug 2012 11:37:33

stayed at 3 Lower Farm for a weekend in May 2012 found the cottage to be very well equipped, extremely comfy beds, cosy and snug lounge for 4 adults and very nice to be able to sit round a good-sized table to eat in kitchen-diner everything was immaculate including the pretty gardens front and back excellent situation, near to the sea with splendid views from the hill behind cottage, quiet yet not far to go to buy food/eat at local pub etc a good website to navigate and helpful booking system as well as a warm welcome from the owner would highly recommend this cottage Wed, 08 Aug 2012 15:24:03

Stayed in Chestnut Cottage. Perfect cottage - every requirement met especially for our disabled friend. Clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Location excellent for Weymouth, Abbotsbury, Burton bradstock, Dorcester etc. Good enclosed garden for the dog. All your cottages are lovely - have stayed in 3 others. Would recommend to friends. We've holidayed twice, staying at Sycamore and 3 Lower Farm. We had amazing weather the first time and the cottages are so comfortable and homely. We have explored so much of the area and we love it all. The weather beat us in 2012 as we had booked early July but it won't put us off in future. Thu, 02 Aug 2012 18:42:07

My husband and I have stayed at the cottages in Langton Herring many times we always enjoy it as the cottages are very comfortable we feel very at home there and are always sad when we have to leave. There are so many places nearby that you can visit, including some lovely beaches. We are looking forward to returning again in September. Mon, 30 Jul 2012 20:36:21

Holiday on 6th July. Having briefly stayed at The Brambles but due to very bad weather had to move to No. 3 Lower Farm. Even though we had the unexpected move round the corner, we had the most brilliant holiday ever and had a very relaxing time. We do hope to stay again next year. Mon, 30 Jul 2012 17:21:25

Had a wonderful family stay in Chestnut Cottage with the children and grand children. Cottage was well equipped and we wanted for nothing. Owners had thought of everything and made it a home from home. Sun, 29 Jul 2012 21:47:49

Lovely cottage (Sycamores) in a delightful setting. The welcome was friendly and efficient and our holiday was all that we'd hoped for. We'd love to come back. Sun, 29 Jul 2012 20:19:37

We have just returned from a week in Sycamores cottage. We were very pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the cottage - ample for three adults and one four year old. The cottage and garden were very well maintained and extremely well equipped. We wanted for nothing. It is in such a beautiful and peaceful spot, but within easy reach of Weymouth beach, which our grandson loved. I would dearly love to come again, but would choose a cottage with two bathrooms as having just the one made the mornings a bit of a scramble! I would also have liked a grab rail on the bath (?age) and a decent shower. I really hesitated to make these minor points as we were all so impressed with the facilities and the location as a whole. (I would have appreciated wi fi in the cottage). Thank you for a wonderful holidaay Sun, 29 Jul 2012 08:19:19

Returned last week following two glorious weeks incl the heatwave(our second stay this year)in Brambles and Willows. If you have not yet discovered SW Dorset and Character Farm Cottages, you are missing a treat! Peaceful location with stunning scenery and views all around;cosy well maintained, meticulously clean cottages surounded by a working dairy farm and some very friendly farm animals " Kerwin and Stickybun" 2 favourites together with their owners. All the ingredients for a wonderful escape at any time of the year.We appreciated the mid holiday clean and linen change too. Just 2 suggestions: a towel rail/hook in the kitchen area and the settee and armchair beginning to look a little tired or is it us finding them a little low when were are tired! New discoveries are Moores Bakery Morecombelake but get there early.Thank you Jane and Ann for your wonderful hospitality and for preserving your enchanting corner of Dorset in Langton Herring. We shall return again. We stayed in the Willows cottage which was very comfortable and a lot of thought had gone into the cottage layout and equipment. It was also a perfect retreat for a quiet relaxing holiday where you could choose do nothing if you so wished. The finishing touches ie vase of flowers and chocolates made it feel special on your arrival. Fri, 02 Sep 2011 17:43:23

My partner and I stayed in Brambles in June 2010 and again in June 2011 and again we loved every minute of our stay. We hope to stay again in the future. It was so peaceful and relaxing and the cottage is well equipped, clean, tidy and is very homely. The whole area is beautiful and we had a really enjoyable holiday. Wed, 10 Aug 2011 19:45:31

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Brambles. The cottage was very well equipped and furnished. Everything was perfect except one small detail - please put some coat hooks inside the front door so we have somewhere to put our wet jackets and put a towel rail/hook in the kitchen. Thank you for a restful and comfortable vacation. Fri, 27 May 2011 12:26:38

We can give nothing but very good comments on any of the cottages you run We love the quiet country location and the walks nearby. Our stay in the Sycamores this time was just great. The space in the cottage is more than adequate for three or four people. The kitchen is very well appointed and the bedrooms are clean and very comfortable. We recommend renting one of your cottages to friends whenever the topic of holidays in England comes up! Nuff said! We look forward to our next visit. Thu, 26 May 2011 20:38:06

Chelsea Cottage. As a group of friends we were attending the Vintage Motor Cycle Club's 'Weymouth Week' rally and we found that the accomodation was ideal for us. Plenty of parking area for the vans and bikes in a lovely secluded village. The house was comfortable and well fitted with equipment and comfortable beds. One of our group, unfortunatly could not attend, and so we had the luxery of a bedroom each.Luckily the weather was so good in May that we didn't have to test the heating but there seemed to be plenty of electric heaters in the rooms. Overall it was a very enjoyable week in comfortable accomodation. Tue, 24 May 2011 09:22:30

We had a lovely stay in Chestnut and Chelsea Cottages that accomodated all my family in comfort. Of course Chestnut was the favoured venue, we loved it, and were most grateful for all the trouble taken to ensure that we were able to eat together in the large Chestnut kitchen. We will definitely be booking a Spring break next year subject to availability Mon, 23 May 2011 13:47:05

Where to start, we have known Jane for many years and have spent some wonderfull holidays in Dorset. The first time was in bed and breakfast in the farmhouse, and since then my wife and I have stayed in all the cottages on Lower Farm, even one that is no longer there, we have seen Jane get married to Jake we even share the the same anniversary date and watched the children grow to fine youngsters. The area is so full of wonderfull places to go and see and not a lot of travelling is envoled. We spent a glorious week this spring and shall be back again in the late autumn with our next door neighbours who have also enjoy the area. If you like dinning out you will be spoilt for choice and in our opinion one of the best The Turks Head at Chikeral. So after many years of going to Lower Farm we look forward to going there again a bit later this year in November. So to anyone who logs on to this site, go on give it a go you wont be sorry. 3 Lower Farm - excellent week in May, comfortable, clean and quiet. Cottage had everything supplied that we needed. Mrs Elwood and Mrs Mayo were very welcoming and attentive, I loved the flowers and mints that we found on arrival. I was concerned about lack of central heating as it can still be cold in May but the heating provided is very efficient and the cottage warm, we had one cold evening but within a few minutes of switching on heater really cosy. The area is beautiful, I can no longer walk any distance but if you can this is perfect for you, even if you do not walk the aspect and surroundings are lovely. We hope to return next year. When one makes an on-line booking there is always a certain amount of trepidation about how the actual premises live-up to the promises. Well, there was absolutely no need to worry about Willow Cottage. It was a lovely cottage, set in a delightful working farm surrounded by beautiful countryside. The cottage was very well appointed, roomy & clean, comfy beds, armchair & sofa, TV and a kitchen area with all you could need. There was a small, private garden with table & chairs and a delighful cat to keep us company!(always a bonus). Jane, Jake & their children were friendly & helpful without being pushy. The local village is attractive with scenic walks down to the Fleet & Chesil Beach. We enjoyed our stay very much & would certainly recommend the cottage to other couples. Fri, 20 May 2011 15:55:36

The walks are fantastic and the coastal area is out of this world. We will deffinately be back can't wait see you soon Sue and Ray Fri, 20 May 2011 09:15:39

We booked Chelsea and Chestnut cottages for a party of eight as, apart from hubby and I, all wanted their own room and good access to bathrooms (some in their 70s and 80s, so this bit of luxury particularly appreciated) - we all loved both properties...Chelsea the 'cosier cottage'feel and Chestnut so spacious with plenty of tables for doing jigsaws and playing bridge. Apart from farm vehicles and cows, wonderfully peaceful and lovely areas for sitting out. We will be back! Thu, 19 May 2011 18:25:07

We stayed at The Brambles - what an idyllic place. So many walks just outside the door, the dog was really spoilt. We thought the cottage was extremely well appointed and felt really homely with excellent facilities. The honesty box for washing machine/dryer was a nice touch - no hidden costs at all. We had a friendly dog come to visit - Monty, and we had a lovely horse just outside the front door! We will most certainly come again - please! Thu, 19 May 2011 14:34:26

Spent a weekend here in January and were very lucky with the weather. We stayed in the Swallows which exceeded our expectations. If you want peace and tranquility then you can't go far wrong here. Sun, 20 Mar 2011 19:00:34

Hi to the Elwoods et al Being regular visitors to the various Character Cottages, we thought we would give Willows a first visit. As with all your cottages, Willows was spotlessly clean, the welcoming fresh flowers and the prepared log fire was a lovely suprise. As ever great place to relax - with no mobile signal, yippee! Other comments: 1 - Add somewhere to hang walking clothes 2 - Lounge/diner lighting to have a dimmer switch 3 - Additional table lamps as an alternative? 4 - Restaurant guide needs updating to include opening times and directions In closing, we will be back! chestnut cottage was lovely - warm, homely, spacious, clean and well equipped. great location for exploring area and useful literature provided in the house. only negative was that water in downstairs shower didn't drain properly making it a very wet room to use afterwards. would also be useful for it to be noted in printed literature that towels are provided (a big plus). no hesitation in recommending it to others. Really enjoyed staying at The Willows cottage with my son, it was really well equipped and an excellent location for some peace and restoration. Coupled with a horse outside the front door and cows in the field behind, it was a little piece of heaven. A great place to stay and so comfortable, look out for a little cat called "hitler", he will grace your doorstep most mornings. Tue, 02 Nov 2010 21:27:26

We had a great holiday - a wonderful location for walking and the cottage was exceptionally well fitted out. I will recommend it to friends - the bus sevice is great but you really need a car to get the best from the area. Tue, 02 Nov 2010 16:39:27

My parents and I have just returned having enjoyed another idyllic stay at Character Farm Cottages,my 3rd and their 2nd visit this year.Yes we are hooked on this oasis of calm in Langton Herring surrounded by stunning scenery and wonderful Dorset local fayre. The Sycamores compact recently refitted kitchen a bonus blending with the original character of the cottage. The patio a sun trap. The Willows and Brambles are charming conversions and thank you again Jane for accomodating me following my abandoned trip abroad. The unseasonally v.warm October sunshine the icing on a very enjoyable cake! Character Farm Cottages are special hideaways, but once discovered its hard to stay away and oh so easy to forget you have to go home! Mon, 25 Oct 2010 21:31:40

My wife and I had a wonderful holiday in 3 Lower Farm Cottage during September this year. We had a truly relaxing time, as not only is the cottage comfortable and well equipped, it is in the middle of beautiful Dorset countryside and well placed for trips out in the car. Even our dog, usually rather vocal, seemed to relax totally and she certainly enjoyed the large, safe garden. Internet access was good and we discovered quite a penchant for table tennis. We will certainly return as we feel there is so much more to see in the surrounding towns and villages. Grahame and Mandy Klippel Wed, 06 Oct 2010 13:47:17

We stayed in chestnut cottage - it was great - really big house with a great garden, especially when the cows came to visit the back fence during the day. despite being next to a farm there was very little noise from machines or cows. great location & fantastic facilities!. thank you!. The Sycamores was a lovely olde worlde cottage with eveything we needed. So quiet and relaxing. Good base to explore surrounding area. Friendly village and good food served at The Elm Tree pub. We are already planning our return next year! Fri, 10 Sep 2010 17:35:55

We stayed at one of your cottages in June and had a fantastic time. It is great for children to be so near the swannery and animal farm as well as the beach. The gardens at the cottages are nice as well for children and can easily spend time at the cottage without feeling the need to go out. Felt very welcome and have just started talking about booking at your cottages for next year. Sun, 05 Sep 2010 13:43:43

We had one of those wet weeks when the coast of Dorset turns into Bodmin Moor, yet thoroughly enjoyed in, mainly because Chestnut Cottage was such a comfortable base, both for excursions to weather-proof delights such as the Tropical Gardens at Abbotsbury, the Steam Train at Corfe, and the Elm Tree Inn just up the road, and for games and conversation amongst the three generations of our family that came together for the week. We look forward to visiting again in the future - whatever the weather! Sat, 04 Sep 2010 11:43:52

We stayed in Chelsea Cottage during August this year, we were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome in the cottage, flower arrangements, tea, coffee and biscuits and plenty of towels. As the weather is always unpredictable it is nice to have a homely property to be able stay inside if necessary! The garden is lovely and great for the dogs. Thank you. Sat, 04 Sep 2010 09:34:07

The house is well situated between Weymouth and Dorchester both of which are well worth visiting. Nearer are some fine country walks although the coast is too pebbly for easy swimming especially if you have young children. However, it is a remarkably quiet location, apart from the odd tractor, and a wonderful retreat from our more urbanised existence. The house is well furnished and very comfortable, and the view over the surrounding fields from the backgarden is typically rural, with cows wandering in the meadow which the children who were with us found delightful. One additional pleasure is that during our stay in August the night sky, minus the usual background glare one gets in cities, meant that it was stunningly clear as I had almost forgotten what the milky way looked like. If you want a peaceful holiday in a beautiful location, residing in a most comfortable cottage then this is as good a place as any. Wed, 01 Sep 2010 20:19:49

We stayed in Brambles for a week from 19th June 2010 and we were very pleasantly surprised by the very homely feel of the interior and exterior of the cottage. It was very quiet and peaceful, lovely relaxed evenings and it was great to be greeted by the horse in the paddock most mornings! Brambles is situated in a beautiful setting and we had many walks around the village and up the track to view and walk along the edge of the fleet. We loved the area and would hope to come back in the near future. The interior of the cottage was spotless and there was everything necessary to make it feel like "home from home". We took loads of lovely photos and have happy memories of our stay. Wed, 01 Sep 2010 20:17:53

I have just spent a glorious week at Chestnut cottage with my husband and two friends, My husband and I have been to stay in four of your cottages and we have found them to be of very high standard. Our friends were visiting for the first time and they were very impressed and have said they would love to come back.I am coming back again in september and plan to bring my sisters with me and I am sure we will get a good welcome and thoroughly enjoy our week. Thankyou for the great hospitality. Sue Williams. PS. We think the new web site is brilliant. Wed, 01 Sep 2010 10:46:14

Our stay at the Willows from June 11th to 18th was brilliant - one of the most comfy cottages we have holidayed in over the past few years- very peaceful and the private patio area a definite sun trap. The walks around were good, although we have to say we found the stiles mostly unfriendly for dogs, some even having barbed wire on them. This is of course nothing to do with the Willows, but worth a mention as a warning for future holidaying dogs !! Would like to return again, this time with the grandchildren in the not too distant future. Wed, 01 Sep 2010 10:44:58

Thank you so much for a great week, we all really enjoyed and wished we could have stayed longer. Good reason to ruturn. The cottages were clean, tidy and well presented with the added touch of a flower arrangement on the kitchen table. Plenty to see and do and a great walk over the hill to view the Fleet and Dorset coast. Thanks again for a wonderful time. Tue, 31 Aug 2010 21:19:04

We have recently stayed in the Willows and were delighted with the lovely cottage - it was spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything you could wish for to make a relaxed happy holiday. It is ideally situated to explore the Dorset coast from Lyme Regis to Weymouth and beyond. We enjoyed watching the sunsets from the patio and the walk through the village to the fleet. We were made very welcome on our arrival and look forward to staying again in the future. Thank you. Tue, 31 Aug 2010 20:54:21

We have been coming to the cottages every year, often twice or three times each year, since 1993. Between us, members of our family have stayed in all of the Langtopn Herring cottages over the years. All the cottages are absolutely lovely, always spotlessly clean and comfortable. We have been impressed by the way that over the years, Ann Mayo and her daughter Jane Elwood have constantly improved and updated the cottages without destroying their character. What has been even nicer is that they have asked us as regular visitors, and I am sure other regulars, what changes would improve our time in Langton; this is a sign of how much they care about their guests. We even meet up with some of those regulars that we have come to know through the years! We always receive such a warm welcome; so often there are extra little touches - decorations and welcome notes, especially at Christmas and Easter time. Nothing is too much trouble and being run by the family, they are always there to provide help with any little problem that may arise, without delay. These cottages are fabulous; we cannot recommend them too highly. Tue, 08 Jun 2010 19:08:31

We stayed in the Swallows last summer and were absolutely delighted with the cottage. It is a lovely peaceful location surrounded by stunning scenery - also a super-safe location for young children. My two particularly enjoyed visiting the owners daughters selection of pets!!! We will definitely visit again. Tue, 08 Jun 2010 16:07:06
